Getting Started on Content Writing

Content writing varies considerably and depending on what it is you want to write for and the reason for needing the content, will determine how you go about planning your content. A formula style will suit some writers and readers while a natural style of creativity generates a special form of communication.

Natural Style Content Writing

Each blog I write is a little like a mesh bag – it stretches a bit, ideas poke through the gaps, it fills from a variety of places, I always want to add a bit more and I want to share it’s contents. There are also some gentle patterns, rather than formulas, that contribute to each article.

Finding Themes Close to my Heart

Although my blogs have a theme I follow, it is easy to write on most topics I cover because the theme is close to my heart.  I am a women, a mother and a business owner, so I figure what I find interesting will be of interest to someone else in my situation.  I know not everything I write about will have any significance, but as long as I hit the heart of one other woman then my job has been done.

Writing With or Without a Plan

Although my intention was to have a plan, a list of what I wanted to write about and in what order I should be writing, this is probably a good plan when it comes to business content, you have to know exactly what you need, what you want to tell your audience and in what order they will learn each piece of information (maybe this needs to be expanded and is another blog topic) but it hasn’t happened for this website, because I write from the heart and the topics come to me in my observation of life.

If I am writing about business then I go about things a little differently to if I am writing about relationships or spirituality which is more heart based content.  When it comes to business, this is more head stuff so I have more of a plan.  I make lists and dot points as I am writing to incorporate at the correct time.  I research the topic to get other people’s thoughts and ideas because I know what others think, as they have just as much merit with their opinions as my thoughts, so I want to give you a fair overview or a few options or differing opinions so you get a balanced article.

Content Written in my own WordsWoman typing on computer and taking notes on padn

Marie Forleo in one of her MarieTV episodes talks about content writing and her chant and it definitely is a chant is “rip it and make it your own”.  I suppose that is what I do to a point, I rip the subject I’m going to write about from what is happening around me, then write the content out of my thoughts and totally make it mine.  Content needs to be original, written in your own words, it doesn’t have to be different but it does need to be written originally.

Inspiration is Everywhere

I get my inspiration on themes come from topics of conversation I over hear, small things mentioned by other people or just thoughts about things I should do, could do or maybe want to say.  These ideas can grow in my mind and become my next blog.

So basically, this is what I do, I think of things in day to day living and then write about them.  I talk to people on topics or subjects maybe not even going into much detail then come home and write on it, sometimes I sleep on things and in my dreams I write about what I’m going to write about or at least how I’m going to set things up in my blog.

Friday night I was talking to a friend about who I liked watching on Gaia TV, Saturday night while watching Gaia on my computer I wondered how many other people would be interested in knowing about inspirational people, I went to sleep and when I woke up Sunday morning I knew I had to write about all my mentors and the inspirational people I find amazing, hence Spiritual Leaders I follow was born.

Another friend has been sharing her recipes with me and I am in love with the chai recipe which is so much healthier than the high sugar powder drink I had been consuming and that is how the Easy Recipes for a knock off Thermomix was born.  Ideas come through all sorts of conversations and what you are interested in maybe I am also, so this is why I share all sort of random stuff.

I hope giving you an insight to my natural style of content writing has inspired you think about things a little differently, do things a little bit differently and expand your ideas on how this world works around us.
